Now, I know when you think of “endangered”, Butterfly doesn’t really come to your mind. There are so many, right? Correct. Monarch butterflies show up almost everywhere, right? Yup. So, we don’t need to worry about them, right? Wrong. Even though they are practically everywhere, and there are a lot, monarch butterflies are still endangered, least concern.
Monarch butterflies in 2022 were 2.21 hectares, and in 2021 they were 2.84 hectares, a 22% decrease. Today, our best estimation is that there are 21 million monarch butterflies.
The first reason that monarch butterflies are endangered is because like many other endangered species, they have lost their habitat in North America. Another reason that we should protect monarch butterflies is because of pesticides. Pesticide can hurt monarch butterflies, and even kill them.
Next time you see a wing of a butterfly, preserve it, and study it. Maybe one day you will be brave enough to get a monarch butterfly to land on you! Remember, take itty-bitty steps towards success!
Go green.
